Your dogs dental hygiene is very important and can be overlooked.  If you dogs breath smells is could be a build up of tartar.  These areas grow bacteria and damage the teeth and gums and can cause problems to other parts of the dog including the hearth and kidneys.  To help in the prevention of tartar build up her are some tips.

  • Brush you dogs teeth daily with a dog tooth paste.  They do get used to the sensation, please persevere, this could save you lots of money in the long run.
  • You can encourage your dog to chew, not the furniture but bones specifically for this reason.
  • You can inspect your dogs teeth by lifting the lips all around the mouth area.  The two canine front teeth usually get the most buildup.  Please do this with caution to prevent being bitten.
  • Check for loose or missing teeth.
  • Don’t forget to inspect the gums.  This is really important as like our teeth if the gums are bleeding this can be a sign of dental disease.
  • Dental hygiene is important to your dogs overall health.
  • If you dog is reluctant to chew or cries out when chewing this could be a sign of dental problems.
  • Contact your vet if you think there is a problem with your dogs teeth or gums.

De-scaling is an added service I provide whereby as much of the tartar may be scraped off the teeth.  This is subject to how bad the tartar build up is and whether your dog will let me carry out the procedure at a cost of £10.
